Just to summarize, since the above really doesn't do the article justice...

It looks like the Ubuntu Linux 5.10 installer saves a copy of the installation log as world readable. Unfortunatly, this log contains the password for the first user account created, a user which normally has full sudo priviledges and therefore can execute commands as root.

A patch exists to correct this issue, and earlier versions of the Ubuntu installer are not affected.

Also, as a side note to the article seeder, I don't mean to nitpick but it would be nice if this article was tagged under 'ubuntu'.
